Characteristics of American Shorthairs
American Shorthairs are great as pets but not recommended to those who have allergies to cats. They are very gentle and smart. They have tiny meows and loud purrs. American Shorthairs are also independent and are great hunters so they should be let outside to practice their natural behaviors like stalking, pouncing, playing, scratching, and meet other cats.
History of American Shorthairs
American Shorthairs started from another breed called British Shorthair or Europe Shorthair. When immigrants came , some came with British Shorthairs and soon the Shorthairs starts to breed with other imported cats like Burmese, and Persian. American Shorthair was finally recognized in 1966 and now they are very popular in U.S.
